Gloria Wavamunno
Gwavah
Gloria Wavamunno launched her eponymous brand in 2009, when she returned home to Uganda after years of working and studying abroad. “I was always interested in creation and art, and fashion became the main outlet for that,” she said about founding her own label, speaking to Refashion Africa. As a mainstay in Uganda’s burgeoning scene, the brand draws inspiration from Ugandan culture, and designer’s own family and heritage. In addition to acting as creative director of her line, Wavamunno founded Kampala Fashion Week, and serves as the chairman for the Ugandan Fashion Council. Speaking about founding Kampala Fashion Week she said: “I saw the challenges to grow and succeed as a fashion brand in Africa, and I wanted to create a platform that could support and elevate fellow designers, which in turn would elevate our industry through exposure.”
